Rock the Block: Downtown White Plains’ Free Summer Concert Series Returns

Get Ready to Rock the Block: Downtown White Plains’ Free Summer Concert Series Returns Every Third Wednesday, May Through August

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (May, 2025) — Following a successful debut last year, the highly anticipated annual Rock the Block concert series is set to return to Downtown White Plains with 4 live concerts on May 21st, June 18th, July 16th, and August 20th!

Hosted by the Downtown White Plains Business Improvement District and the City of White Plains and co-produced with Doug Panero Presents, this vibrant music event will take place every third Wednesday of the month from May through August.

The street closure on Mamaroneck Avenue between Maple Ave and East Post Road will create a car-free environment, transforming Downtown White Plains into a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly space. Concert-goers can look forward to a main stage featuring live performances, a sea of picnic tables for outdoor dining at eight local eateries, and free activities for all ages, including street activations like cornhole, seesaws, and hands on art for families. With many dogs attending our concerts last year, four legged friends are welcome too! This year a nine-hole mini-golf course will also activate the street made possible by the support of many local businesses, including Club Champion, Apple Cinemas, Lou Vaccaro of Raymour and Flanigan, The Cambria, Hastings Coffee and Tea, Yoga Six, Ann Bernstein of Houlihan Lawrence, Purple Owl, Minuteman Press and Game on Golf Center (which will also bring their golf simulator to the first event).

Each Rock the Block concert will showcase a diverse lineup of musical genres, including reggae, Latin Salsa, Soul, Country, Tribute Bands, R&B, Rock & Blues, and much more!

The May concert will kick off the series with headliner The Big Takeover, led by Jamaican-born singer/songwriter Nee Nee Rushie. This dynamic seven-piece band, native to the Hudson Valley, fuses reggae, ska, and retro soul, captivating audiences with their infectious energy and powerful performances.

The event will also feature young talent, with The Only Bay Allstars opening the show, showcasing the impressive skills of 10-year-old guitar prodigy Bay Melnick Virgolino (103k followers on Instagram), who has already graced iconic stages like the Apollo.

Additional headliners throughout the summer series include Tito Puente Jr. on June 18th, The Wildmans on July 16th, and Ada Dyer on August 20th. Each concert will feature engaging openers, including Mansa G. Code, The Big Happy, and Everyday People.

Rock the Block is more than just a concert series; it’s a celebration of community and local business. This seasonal event aims to bring together the White Plains and Westchester community in a safe, fun environment while also driving foot traffic to small businesses in the area.

“Our debut concert in May [of 2024] brought thousands to the Avenue. We had grandparents, groups of friends, young families and local employees sitting shoulder to shoulder, enjoying the nice weather, live free music and street activations. We are so excited for round two!” said Jennifer Furioli, Executive Director of the Downtown White Plains Business Improvement District.

“This event series gathers neighbors together for good music and even greater memories. It’s an important part of our recreational portfolio providing free affordable programming for the City of White Plains”, said Wayne Bass, Commissioner of White Plains Recreation and Parks.

Participating restaurants include Brazen Fox, Cantina, Freebird, Hudson Grille, Lazy Boy Saloon, Lilly’s, Ron Blacks, and Sundance Kitchen & Cantina.

White Plains Hospital is the presenting sponsor for the event. Additional supporters include Argent Ventures, Westchester County, Tony Casale Inc, Bruni & Campisi, SRG2 Partners LLC., Cappelli Organization, LANline Communications, Tony Casale, Inc. and Partyline. New York Power Authority (NYPA) is a community partner. Their collective support plays a crucial role in making this event a reality and enhancing the local cultural landscape.

We invite everyone to come out to Rock the Block and experience the joy of live music while enjoying the charm of Downtown White Plains. For more information about the concert series, featured artists, and restaurants, visit https://wpbid.com/events/rock-the-block-2025/
